In an effort to give myself a creative kick in the pants, I’ve embarked on a process of shooting a roll a day of film (on average, which means 31 rolls over the past month). I’ve been playing around with different formats of film/cameras. For now I’m not going to concern myself with a singular subject/theme, or format — just doing some “sketching” of different subjects and ways of shooting. I’m confident I’ll settle down onto one idea eventually.

Since I’ve shot so many shots over the past month, I’m going to break these posts into to 2 parts. This first will be the black & white shots below. These are shot with several of my 35mm cameras ((Leica, Nikonos, and Nikon FM) and my medium format Holga (with the Holga and the Nikon FM I sometimes play around with multiple explosures).

The first 15 shots are from my friend Becky’s visit to Oregon. We spent some time swimming in the Willamette River underneath the St. Johns bridge. We also went to the Oregon coast — to Oceanside, Falcon Cove, and Astoria.

The next 5 shots are from a visit to the Lloyd Center Mall with my friend Arthur (the last week it was open before it closed forever).

The final 5 shots are from wanderings around St Johns and (the last one) downtown Portland.

I follow this up with Part 2 — the color shots — later today or tomorrow.
